The average age of those infected in the city area in the second half of September was around 36 years, eight years lower than the average age of COVID-19 cases in Augsburg identified from March to June. Only one in ten persons was 60 years or older. The high proportion of patients between 10 and 30 years of age and between 50 and 60 years of age is striking.

According to the health department, the cases in July 2020 were due to several clusters. Among other things, COVID-19 infections were detected in connection with outbreaks in a restaurant, among employees of a company from the district of Aichach-Friedberg, an asylum shelter and in the vicinity of several z.T. The cases occurred in families with relatives, and some day-care centers and schools were also affected.
Comparatively, many children and adolescents tested positive in July: The average age of those infected in the city area in July was about 36 years, eight years lower than the average age of COVID-19 cases identified in Augsburg from March to June. Every fourth person infected in July was younger than 20 years, from March to June, this age group was affected in only one in ten cases. 12.8 percent of the most recently registered cases were even under ten years old; from March to June, only 4.2 percent of all cases fell on under-10-year-olds.
