Nuremberg – The Christmas action "joy for all" has been motivating people to donate to needy citizens in our region for more than 50 years. And thanks to the great participation, it was once again able to make a big difference – namely to support almost 6,000 households between Neustadt and Neumarkt, Treuchtlingen and Forchheim.

There is also some good news. And this is even excellent: With thousands of individual donations, readers as well as users of the Internet offerings took part in the Christmas aid campaign "Joy for all" of the publishing house Nurnberger Presse (VNP). Your donations from mid-November to mid-January added up to a new record: a total of 3.322 million euros was received in the four donation accounts.

The previous year’s level had already been reached by Christmas. However, the official closing date is always at the end of January, which is now eleven weeks later, because a considerable amount of donations is still received at the turn of the year. Thus came under the line now again approximately 30.000 euros more together than at the same time a year ago. At the time, total proceeds of more than three million euros were achieved for the first time.

In the first Corona winter, a widespread mood with the willingness to stand together in the pandemic and, for example, to help people who suffered losses due to short-time work or unemployment, had apparently helped to achieve success. The fact that the willingness to donate has not diminished in the meantime is more than pleasing – and certainly also thanks to new donors.

No data collection

For the first time, the VNP media association also addressed the readers of the Nurnberger Zeitung newspaper. However, it is not possible to determine the extent of their involvement. Because a "data match" with customer, reader or subscriber directories are available at "Freude fur alle" not. No donor data is stored, so that detailed evaluations are not possible.

But what has been achieved? More than 5,800 individuals, couples and families from the entire VNP area were supported, most of them in Nuremberg (more than 3,000) and the other cities in the metropolitan area, but also in all the counties in the metropolitan area. Last year, there were even around 600 more households. Fewer applications came this time, especially from the rural regions – various social services reported that contact with clients had weakened or broken off due to the recommended reductions in contact and some fears.

Always for individual help

A total of around 2.3 million euros could be transferred to the individual households – in principle always at the request of social services. Another 550 or so.000 euros were forwarded to initiatives and institutions, whereby the funds are always earmarked for assistance in individual emergencies, not for the operation of offices or salaries.

For example, all Women’s shelters in the metropolitan area amounts to help clients, for example, when they have to find a place to live after an arduous search and have to move or even start from scratch. And 50 alone.000 euros, donated for a specific purpose, were transferred to the Nuremberg Caritas street outpatient clinic. Unbureaucratic and rapid assistance supports "Joy for all as well as the Psychosocial Cancer Counseling Service, an institution such as the "Frauenzimmer" (Women’s Room) or the "Treffpunkt" association for relatives of detainees.

Employment that gives hope

The great overall result allows – in connection with the earmarked donations received – even more. This is how the donations from "Joy for All" bear fruit help to secure the work projects at the Lilith drug counseling center and thus enable the women to find employment again and gives hope to those in need. The proceeds of the well-known "Sternschnuppen" (shooting star) charity were also used to support the project-Advent calendar of the Nuremberg Lions Club is partly intended to. Good 17.Joy for All" receives € 000 from the Lions initiative – this year without a formal handover due to Corona.

In a similar way "Joy for all" can Support the continued employment of several female clients in the Allerhand stores of the Stadtmission. The long forced closure last year had been particularly hard on this offer, intended for socially disadvantaged households. The already narrow, but for the operation essential income had melted strongly – state aid did not take effect at this point.

A lot of thank you mail

Many recipients also thanked us – in the traditional way – with letters or cards and confirmed what a relief and relief they had experienced. And some of those whose fates were presented in daily portraits and case reports, and for whom earmarked donations were possible, would prefer to personally thank all those who made support possible – which, of course, is not possible for practical reasons alone.

After the end of the Christmas and post-Christmas period, the "Joy for All" campaign will continue by no means completely shut down: The funds still available serve as a kind of firefighting fund during the course of the year, i.e. until the next campaign begins in November 2022. In justified cases, soci al services can apply for assistance for clients who are in distress and acute emergencies can only be cushioned with donations.
