Berlin Catholics react to abuse report "How can one educate people in this faith now??"

Many Catholics are outraged by the way the responsible clerics are dealing with the Munich abuse report. This is also clearly noticeable in the Catholic parish of Sankt Annen in Berlin-Steglitz.
Sankt Annen is located in the Berlin district of Lichterfelde and is a small, rather middle-class community. Here, too, many are horrified by the news surrounding the Munich abuse report.
"I am actually almost at a loss for words" says Maike Brokat. "The word catastrophe is actually an understatement. I see this as a worldwide failure." A Catholic who has been active in her parish for many years, she is particularly outraged by the emeritus Pope Benedict XVI., who was a cardinal in Munich for a long time and was obviously caught lying. "This is far from integer", she says.

The church "mulishly counters"
Maike Brokat would have liked to see the cases of abuse followed up consistently and measures taken to show genuine remorse. But she fears that if all cases were uncovered, "the church in Germany would be emptied out.
What to do? Of course, there are approaches critical of the church – such as the women’s initiative Maria 2.0 or the church people’s petition "We are church" – but "the big box catholic church as an institution holds mulishly against it", says Maike Brokat.

How to convey this?
Marlies Brouwers also finds it extremely sad that at the moment there is still too little enlightenment. In addition still another emeritus pope, who lies obviously. "How should one now still educate people and also one’s own children in this faith"?, she asks "when even there the 8. bid is no longer worth?" The commandment not to lie.
Marlies Brouwers demands: The church must rethink its understanding of ministry, must ask itself how to deal with other lifestyles and thereby let go of the arrogance practiced so far. It would be important – especially in connection with the abuse cases – for her to "rethink canon law and really bring all criminals to secular courts. Until now, the church has covered up crimes in many cases until they were time-barred.

Small changes made
"The Catholic Church has been seething for a long time", says Hans-Joachim Scholman, local councillor in Sankt Annen. The church was already in one of its deepest crises 12 years ago as a result of the abuse scandal. At that time, the sexualized violence against students of the Canisius College was made public. Things have changed in recent years, Scholman says.
"The priests have been knocked off their pedestals and have become normal people. By recognizing her fallibility now." In the meantime, there is less dictation from above, he reports. People work more with each other. "So there is something in motion. The problem is certainly that when something like this happens at the top, trust in the structure and in this office dwindles."
The report
A Munich law firm had been commissioned by the Archbishopric of Munich and Freising Abuse cases between 1945 and 2019 investigates. The experts found evidence of at least 497 victims of sexualized violence in the archdiocese during this period, as well as 235 perpetrators, including 173 Catholic priests. In addition they throw the Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. He is accused of having made mistakes in dealing with perpetrators of abuse in four cases in his function as archbishop of Munich between 1977 and 1982.
Stay or go?
Leaving the church? Hans-Joachim Scholman has already considered the same thing. "Of course I can vote with my feet, but if I do that, nothing changes in there, so we stay and try from this level to interfere more and more." The smaller and smaller congregations do not want to and should not close themselves off, they are looking for cooperation with the neighboring Protestant communities and, above all, do not want to let up on exerting pressure on their own church leadership – even if it is a matter of sharing rights previously reserved only for priests. "We want to enter into this dialogue and not immediately with the club, but nevertheless firmly say that we must change something here with", says Scholmann.
Marlies Brouwers also wants to stay in the church. It is above all about being Catholic. That give her support in life. What the pope says matters less to her.
Maike Brokat, on the other hand, is currently thinking about leaving almost every day. She no longer has any hope that the church can be reformed from within: "I believe that the church as an institution must collapse so that it can recreate itself."

The last means to gain time until the grass has grown over the reports is to set up a commission. This also happens in this case and the Holy See remains firm.
I’m also thinking of Islam, where you are a Muslim at birth. And to the boys, not girls, who have to go to mosques with them from a young age, whether they want to or not
The disintegration of the Catholic Church is long overdue. Nowadays, no one understands why an association like this one is still granted so much influence and why bspw. the state also collects taxes for an abuse-covering association. Abolish!
I believe that something divine is always present when people do good things. For this purpose ideological (i.e. religious or humanistic) associations are quite conducive. It is always bad when individuals or groups consider themselves to be superior to others. Such things promote hierarchical structures – and out of them power is exercised over others: to the detriment of many individuals and also of the general public (forced sex; secret consensual sex, etc., undesirable family planning). – Hierarchy is so deeply rooted in today’s Catholic Church that only an intensive new beginning will help: Z.B. With worldwide democratically elected speaker*council instead of pope. And women and LQGBT quota for parish positions. (I mean quite seriously.)
Apparently the (non-)reaction of the church to the clarification of the abuse crimes is for some worse than the abuse itself. The fact that there is abuse in the church at all is closely related to celibacy. But since the church is condemned to dogmatism, nothing can change.
If the German tax office would no longer get its commission on church tax collection, the RBB would no longer need to publish such articles.
To the heading : Not at all!
Educating children religiously or giving them political opinions is indoctrination.
Who becomes religious as a youth/adult ok its/their thing, but to educate children to it is also abuse.
Unfortunately, one cannot prevent that adults function as role models – also wrong ones (see right-wing extremist parents) – but that one actively teaches children wrong contents already by the way also in Waldorf schools.
Ecclesiastical rapists should be punished just like secular persons
One would think that a 2000-year criminal past would be enough to finally call this association what it has always been: a criminal association with murder, fraud, lies and deceit. Would it not be called "Church, it would have been banned long ago. The time is more than ripe for this to finally happen.
A separate "suicide cemetery" as in the forest Grunewald is out of time, because the church could change its attitude, lo and behold, in such a significant issue. change goes! Church offices for women, partnerships beyond heterogeneous marriage as a matter of course: these changes must also happen. And they will happen, if the Catholic Church does not abolish itself by further covering up and lying about the abuse cases.
Hoping and waiting keep the believers to fools. What are they waiting for? With the idleness they make themselves complicit.
If I see it right, a central part of the Christian dogma of faith is the idea of repentance and forgiveness, according to which absolution can be granted to the penitent sinner. The Catholic Church is subject to the laws of the Holy See as a sovereign subject of international law. In this respect, a conflict may arise between national laws and the laws of the Holy See. If the persons in question have received absolution according to the laws of the Holy See, it is difficult from the point of view of canon law to hand them over to the national authorities for prosecution.
whether Mr. Ratzinger has already confessed his lies?
Macron has become very sharp in France. Once a week always comes the news in swr DREILAND AKTUELL and I always look at it.
And one has not yet heard of German politicians in our country.
Thank you for your comment. I do not believe that the Catholic Church can renew itself. The power there will do nothing to expose and punish the abuses.
To answer the question: not at all.
The church understands only one language: money. I therefore resigned last year. Although I remain a Christian and I actually like the Catholic faith itself. The organization "catholic church however I would like to belong no more. I imagine myself standing in front of Peter one day and he says to me: "You were there, too, and you supported this!"
The Catholic Church is mainly an apparatus of power. It oppresses women, sexually differently oriented people, pregnant women and divorced people. It forces priests into an inhumane lifestyle, it hinders in clearing up abuse cases, it wields power in politics. All this repels me.
You can be a Christian without belonging to this unfortunate institution. And unfortunately it is the case that "professional Christians" are the ones who are the most discriminating just often live rather unchristian. As an atheist you can adopt Christian rules and norms, live by them without believing in a god. The institution church has abused its power for centuries, has enriched itself for low reasons and supported worldly powers, which were and are very, very bad. In the meantime this institution belongs not only reformed, but abolished, best forbidden and in the mothballs of human history gapackt. I mean explicitly the institution, not the mostly well-behaved and honest believers. I still have esteem and respect for these people.
What is the situation in other countries of the world? ? For example. in Poland and France. Is there further abusein the church practiced ? If the responsible persons stand there before court ? I do not think so.
I am a practicing Catholic myself. But what the two former popes John Paul II (Wojtyla) and Ratzinger gave so usually from itself, I did not accept anyway or I have put on the pull-through.
What bothered me most about them was how the liberation theology (exploitation, disenfranchisement and oppression of the population) in South America was put down by them and how many good and convinced people lost their office because of it.
Also I found quite badly the teaching withdrawal of Hans Kung/Tubingen. Fortunately, the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. reacted correctly and created a new chair for Hans Kung, which he held until his retirement. At a private cath. college/university, Kung would have ended up on the street.
