Option 1. Save recordings from the IP surveillance camera to SD card

There are various reasons why people want to save the recording/recording of the security camera to SD card.

“I don”t want any complicated cable laying like e.g.B. connect the camera to an NVR.”

"I don"t want to sign up for a monthly paid cloud service and upload the pictures or videos to the cloud."

"I want to save the recording of the surveillance camera but the places where my camera is located does not have an internet connection."

Surveillance camera with SD recording is a better solution for these people. As long as motion is detected, the IP camera will start to record videos and save them to SD card, so that you can watch the recordings on a smartphone or computer at a later time.

SD Record

Thus, surveillance camera with SD card recording function is a very popular option for homeowners who want to monitor their front door, garden, apartment or simply put, all places that do not require constant 24h recording.

Another distinct advantage of a surveillance camera with SD recording is that all recordings are safe and protected from outside eyes. This is especially important when unexpected events happen.

Now many IP cameras on the market are equipped with an SD card or SD card slot. For example, the totally wireless surveillance camera equipped with battery and SD card slot is quite flawless and very easy to use for indoor/outdoor although there is no internet access.

Step 2. Connect the surveillance camera to the Internet.

Step 3. Open the surveillance camera client software or app.

Step 4. Add the IP camera to the software/app and set up the camera.

Step 5. Normally, now the IP camera recordings will automatically save to the SD card. To guarantee this 100%, you can also check if this option is selected.

Option 2. Save recordings of the IP camera to the hard disk of the NVR/DVR

If you are looking for a surveillance camera with long recording time, such as 24 hours continuous storage, or you want to store the recordings of more than 3 IP cameras on one hard disk, NVRs and DVRs are recommended as external solutions.

5MP/4MP PoE video surveillance system; 8-channel NVR with built-in 2TB hard drive for 24/7 reliable recording; Plug& Play; With or without internet.

NVR is usually equipped with an installed hard disk with enormous storage capacities (z.B. 2TB) equipped. For example, the supports motion-triggered recording or schedule recording, and also supports continuous recording. Some can even connect to an external hard drive and manage at least 8 cameras, like the Reolink NVR.

The most important thing you need to consider when storing to hard drive is to purchase a suitable NVR. Many standalone NVRs and DVRs only work with the cameras of the same brand, and the products of other brands may have incompatible problems.

Therefore, the best solution is to buy the IP cameras and an NVR/DVR from the same brand, or you can choose a complete security camera set.

Instructions for saving IP camera recordings to NVR/DVR

It is very easy to save the video (with sound) of the surveillance camera to the hard disk of the NVR. Let’s take the Reolink cameras and NVR as an example.

Step 1. Connect the IP cameras to the NVR recorder.

Step 2. Make sure that the cameras and the NVR are powered. Then the cameras and NVR are connected and the data transfer starts now.

Step 3. Connect the NVR to a computer monitor (or a TV). The monitor will display the setting screen.

Step 4. Navigate to the video recording settings.

Step 5. You can now set up the recording of the IP camera, e.g. B. Save the stream 24/7 or a motion detection recording, etc.

Hint: If you want to watch the live stream on your cell phone, connect the NVR to your network (connect the NVR to the router).

Option 5. Save recordings of IP camera to NAS

NAS storage is already very popular for data storage. And if you want to have the IP camera recorded and stored without a PC, recording the IP surveillance camera to NAS is the best solution for you.

After you add the IP camera to the NAS, the recordings of IP camera will automatically save to NAS without running the software or your computer. Of course the NAS storage should be connected to.

And one thing is that you need to keep in mind when using NAS, you need to buy the licenses if you want to manage more than 2 IP cameras with NAS and store the recordings on it.

How to add the IP camera to NAS and store the recordings of the surveillance camera on it?

No worries. We have given a Reolink IP camera and Synology NAS as an example to show you the steps in detail. Click here to learn the step-by-step guide.

Option 6. Save recordings of IP camera to cloud

Storing surveillance camera recordings to cloud services is also becoming more and more popular among users who are looking for an alternative to NVR/DVR, SD memory cards and NAS. There are also more and more cloud service based video surveillance cameras and IP cameras coming to the market.

Cloud-based storage is relatively convenient and secure, but costs money and requires a monthly subscription fee that can add up over time.

But with cloud storage, you don’t worry about losing your videos.

Conclusion

There is no right answer here which storage is best. It really depends on what you prefer and what is convenient for you. If you know of any other good storage option, share with us! Hello,
i would like to buy argus 2.
Does it have the option ftp or nas ?
Would like to store the recordings externally in case the camera is stolen during burglary.
Is there this feature or maybe an update so frp or nas can be configured ?

I want to buy the argus 2 and have a question.
Can I connect ftp or nas to kanera ?
Or is there an update to use ftp or nas ?
What happens if the camera is stolen ?
Then the memory card is also gone.
iCloud is too expensive for me with reolink.
Therefore they option ftp or nas.

thanks for the message. Unfortunately Argus 2 now does not support FTP and NAS both yet. However, FTP support for battery-powered cameras is in the pipeline. But we can’t determine the specific time now. Therefore I ask you for understanding.

For the theft you are mainly worried about, you can activate the siren function of the camera. To make the camera sound loud and scare off the burglar as long as someone approaches the camera.

Or if you certainly want to store the videos remotely, you can opt for a PoE camera that supports FTP and also NAS flawlessly. Here is a recommendation: https://reolink.com/en/prod.

Thank you and best regards
Nicola

Hello. I already asked a few months ago once, zwecks cloud storage.
The answer was: "Is not yet available in Germany."
Only very far in the west(USA) and in the far east you can use this one.
At least your offered cloud storage.
Since many want to use it, because even memory cards are useless if the burglar discovers the camera and takes it, it would be economically viable to initiate this and offer functional.
But not only with words.
What is also excessively paradoxical and annoys me most, that in German language and writing a camera is offered(in my case Reolink Go),which can not do exactly what is advertised.
For expensive money, even if purely the processing and quality can convince otherwise.
But as already described, the security aspect "cloud storage" is not usable in Germany at the moment.
And therefore this is in my eyes and purely legally seen a fraudulent misrepresentation.
If there is a feasible plan B to still use an external cloud storage, I would be grateful for a detailed description or a description of the E1-Pro. a step-by-step guide.
One thing I noticed about the Reolink Go as a logical person.
How can it be that you can screw the camera off the mount so easily.
It should be built in such a way that by a possibly supplied suitable padlock is locked after unscrewing the camera with both parts and therefore robs the thief more time or does not allow it to steal the camera with data in the first place.
Security!! Greetings to the engineers ;-)

Thanks for the hopefully practical answer in advance.

What does "unfortunately Reolink E1 FTP server does not yet support" mean in this context? that "not yet?". Have for my existing setup from 3 * RLC-410W and 1 * C1-Pro two further Reolink E1-Pro bought, since the C1-Pro is apparently EOL and the E1-Pro yes apparently as the successor is touted. After an hour of searching in vain for the FTP option as a recording path in the setup of the E1-Pro, I now have to read here that this option no longer exists at all . Will this option be added in future firmware updates, or will the E1-Pro remain as it is?? Then it would be unfortunately unusable for me and I would return it in time.
