Store bread – preferably protected and well ventilated
As a general rule, bread made from 100 percent wheat flour dries out most quickly. The higher the proportion of rye in the dough, the longer the dough will stay fresh. In contrast to wheat, rye can retain moisture much longer. The same applies to wholemeal bread and sourdough bread. Those who do not want to freeze their fresh bread, just make sure they are stored properly.
Wheat breads can be stored for up to 2 days and wholemeal breads for up to 9 days.

1. Leave bread in the original packaging only for a short time
Bread from the supermarket or the bakery is usually packed in plastic bags or paper bags. There they can also be stored for a few days at room temperature without any problems. However, the air in such packages can not circulate so well, so the bread begins to mold faster. A better alternative to storing bread are special bread boxes.

Unwrapped bread that is not consumed immediately keeps best in clean, dry and ventilated containers at 12 to18°C. This includes ceramic bread pots, wooden or plastic bread boxes, and cloth or plastic bread bags.
The containers absorb excess moisture and return it to the bread when needed. They also guarantee good ventilation, which in turn prevents mold growth. If you also turn the bread with the cut surface downwards, the baked product is doubly protected.
Tip: Clean the bread box with vinegar water once a week if possible. Because bread crumbs and moisture promote mold growth.

The refrigerator is unsuitable for storing bread. Only in summer, when the temperature and humidity are high, it makes sense to bake the bread.
