“The one who always laughs”: she wrote a song for her sick friend – what happened next is like a fairy tale!

She wrote a song for her sick friend – what happened then is like a fairy tale!

Kerstin sits in her kitchen, a pen in her hand, words and melodies in her head. She thinks of a good friend, texts: "She’s the one who’s always laughing." But the laughter of the girlfriend – it’s just a facade, Kerstin knows that.

Because the truth is that her friend is sick and she doesn’t feel like laughing. That’s why the lyrics go on:

She is the one who always laughs. Only she knows: It’s not how it seems, oh she cries, oh she cries, she cries, but only when she’s alone, when she’s how she is and what she is. It is not what it seems.

The song for the girlfriend became a successful party song

These lines, so simple and so loving, can be heard today in the discos of the country – and people celebrate and dance to them. Because the lines that Kerstin Ott sings have since become a real hit – a hit that has stormed the charts!

In an interview with BRIGITTE, Kerstin explains how this surprising success came about – and reveals: "It’s been almost ten years since I wrote this song for my very good friend. At that time I played it for her and burned it on CD for her."

But because Kerstin was also a DJ in her home country, she burned 20 more CDs with the song and gave them away in town. She says: "Over the years, one of the CDs must have found its way to Berlin, where a girl heard the song and uploaded it to YouTube."

"Who always laughs" – the original version at Youtube:

And with that the song was on the net – but what happened afterwards topped everything: Two DJs from the Erzgebirge, DJ Rixx alias Sebastian Seidel and DJ Ric alias Rico Einenkel, became aware of the catchy song – and made a name for themselves under the name "Stereoact" a remix of "Die immer lacht" (She always laughs), which they in turn uploaded again. The soulful guitar song turned into a party song with a proper beat, but also keeping the mood of the original – and a real catchy tune!

Kerstin Ott says today: "It was already clear to me that this song had what it takes to become a hit, but what happened there is insane!" Because: The remix quickly made its rounds on the net, found a huge fan base. The consequence: numerous DJs play "She who always laughs" today in the discos of the country, there was a record deal, the song landed among other things on the "Ballermann Hits Party 2016" and is featured on the new Bravo Hits 92 its.

This version of "Die immer lacht" conquers Germany:

In the charts it’s always going upwards

In the meantime, "Die immer lacht" has become a hit The song has not only conquered the disco scene: It has also hit the German music charts and climbed up to the top 20! Kerstin Ott is still amazed: "It’s amazing that my ballad has become a party song, I’m incredibly happy about the success."

And what does "She who always laughs" say?, so the girlfriend for whom she wrote the song at the time? Kerstin: "She has of course also noticed the success and is quite touched. She keeps her fingers crossed for me!"

We do too, dear Kerstin! And we are thrilled that it was possible to turn an actually very sad topic into a super-successful song – so that the message can be heard all over Germany. For behind many a laugh hides a fate that remains unspoken.
