If you use Pages on your Mac all the time, you’ve probably learned a thing or two from our various posts on Pages basics or our useful tips on this app.
However, if you really want to take your Pages documents to a whole new level, you need to use every little trick this great productivity app has to offer.
So if you want to learn a few, read along with.
1. Make your images and photos stand out
Nothing makes a document stand out more than the right picture or photo to complement the text. To achieve this, sometimes it is enough to simply place the image in your document. But to really make it stand out every time, you can give it some personality by using some of the image enhancement tools available in Pages.
You can apply these styles with just one click by selecting your image in Pages and then clicking on Styles Tab on the right. There you can add shadows, depth and more.
Cool Tip: Once you have finished enhancing your image, you can move the Style panel on the right and click on the ‘+’ sign to save your changes as a unique, new style.
2. Create your own templates
Let’s say that after working on your Pages document for a long time, you have finally come out with a masterpiece that you can be proud of. In fact, you like it so much that you want to use this document as the basis for all the others.
Fortunately, you can easily do that by saving your currently opened Pages document as a template. To do this, click on the following link when the example Pages document is open File and then select Save as template... Then, in the window that appears, click Add to template selection Button.
From there, you can select your document’s template from the My templates section when you create a new Pages document.
3. Select your unit of measurement
If you work with documents that require tons of images and formatting, using rulers in Pages is a must. However, you may not be used to the units displayed by default.
So if you prefer to use different units than the default Pages ruler, you can easily change them from the app Settings. There click on Rulers and on the Ruler units section, click to select your preferred device from the various available.
4. Make text stand out
If you’re using Pages to write an important paper with a bunch of neat ideas you don’t want anyone to miss, you can easily make them stand out from the rest of your document with this simple trick.
First, select the paragraph you want to draw attention to. Then choose the one on the right Layout Tab and go to the bottom below Borders& Rules. Under this section you will find a Background Color Possibility.
With the paragraph selected, move the mouse pointer over the colored rectangle next to this option and click on the downward pointing arrow that appears.
Then just choose your color and the background of your paragraph will be highlighted.
