OBVIOUSLY Although in most cases prefabricated concrete stairs are installed in modern single-family house construction, there are still construction projects where concrete stairs are manufactured in the manner of a master builder – i.e. carpenter-formed, appropriately reinforced and concreted with cast-in-place concrete. How much these construction services cost in detail and what prices can be expected for precast concrete stairs, you can find out here.

The fact is that there is an extensive set of rules and standards for the planning from execution of stairs in residential buildings, and in private house construction it depends primarily on what purpose the planned staircase is to have. It is important to distinguish whether the staircase is a main staircase or a secondary staircase.
The main staircase, which can also be necessary stairs is referred to, legal requirements are imposed that must be complied with in any case.
In an (average) single-family home, the main staircase connects the Lounges of the different floors – in practice, this is usually the staircase from the first floor to the top floor.
In contrast, for example, the staircase from the ground floor to the basement is a side staircase, which could be designed differently than a main staircase if necessary.
"Could." That’s because it makes perfect sense, also side stairs should be executed in such a way that they can be walked on safely and comfortably.
- In case of doubt, the stairs should always be designed in such a way that they can be walked on without any problems even if the intended use changes.
- In any case, a basement or part of it is not infrequently converted into an additional living space later on, when space becomes a little tight.
Or the attic, for which a side staircase would actually be sufficient, will be developed later on. And even then the residents will be happy, not to have to climb over a narrow, steep and winding staircase  but to have a comfortable floor main stairs.

Concrete staircase or concrete staircase?
That depends on where YOU live and which designation has become common in your region. While in Austria and in the southern part of Germany is mainly talking about stairs, in the other areas are meant stairs. What "right or "wrong is, can therefore not really be said.
The fact is that both concrete stairs and concrete staircases consist of steps – namely of the Treads and the vertical risers. The latter, however, only applies if the staircase is not open and there are no risers. However:
If this site is about any Stairs  are in any case always also Stairs  meant.
It is perhaps interesting, however, nevertheless, that in those regions where stairs are called stairs in common parlance, special designs nevertheless mostly are called stairs.
For example, a spiral staircase always remains a spiral staircase – so even where staircases are literally at home, there will be, normally no spiral staircase made of it.
However, this does not mean that this is the case everywhere. On the production of Staircase construction  specialized companies call the spiral staircases built by them – mostly of wood – then here and there nevertheless again also as spiral staircases.
OVERSEAS: Linguistic differences between different countries or regions do not only exist, of course, when it comes to stair structures that have two Floors connect with each other. Or should it Floors are called? Again, it depends on the purpose.
EARTH SQUEALING . TOP . ROOF SHAKE SZ .
Sharp S (only) in Austria, in Switzerland only double S and therefore no "Eszett". Otherwise also two s, if in the character set no b is present, which is however almost everywhere the case. Special b peculiarities for proper or family names, spelling in passports and then also the capital b for block letters. As if there were no other problems.
- Therefore on this website (alternating) both spellings, because you can’t please anyone anyway.
Interesting: The big b ( Versal-b)  has been replaced by 29. June 2017 by the Council for German Orthography (RdR)  included in the official rules of spelling. Well then.
Why make concrete stairs on site?
No. It is not customary to build staircases by hand In-situ concrete stairs to be manufactured. In most cases, a precast concrete staircase, which is delivered by truck to the construction site and then installed by crane in a very short time, is simply more economical.
Apart from that, many carpenters know how to form a staircase coiled Staircase run no more at all. Negative example: The not infrequently completely wrong end result then looks like this.
De abandonment of a ready-made system staircase, therefore, makes sense only if there is someone who can build such a staircase correct carries out. for a landing staircase with two straight flights of stairs, this is not such a big problem. Just about any mason can do this.
The situation is somewhat different, however, when it comes to having to produce spiral storey staircases – here the demands on the formwork carpenter are already somewhat greater:
- Number of steps
- Calculation of the rise ratio
- Tread width in the walking line
- Minimum width of steps in the area of the newel
- Correct reinforcement
- Consideration of the floor coverings on the floors.
However, the greatest challenge in forming a quarter- or half-spiral staircase by hand is the warping of the individual steps and the associated maintenance of the uniform stair tread thickness, which is required for approx. 12 to 15 cm lies.
To get an evenly turned and curved staircase soffit, must namely quite narrow, practically to zero running "wedges" The prefabricated stairs are cut out of boards and installed side by side in ascending form and in each case sufficiently shimmed so that the soffit of the later concreted running slab has the correct curvature.
BEFORE the stairs can be concreted, still some work is necessary:
- Laying the reinforcement
- Statically correct connection to the floor slab
- Installation of separating layers between enclosing masonry and staircase
- Installation of the riser boards
And also AFTER After concreting, there is still a lot to be done before a staircase is (almost) completed:
- Staircase formwork
- Plastering the soffit and visible stringers
Here, by the way, those services are NOT listed, which must also be made with a prefabricated staircase afterwards. This includes, for example: Step decking, newel walls, stair railings, and any fixtures such as step lighting or whatever.
And why make a concrete staircase by hand now?
This should actually have a good reason. As can be easily seen from the above brief description, the construction of a cast-in-place concrete staircase – especially a spiral one – involves a relatively large amount of work and expense. This expenditure is reflected on the one hand in the costs, on the other hand it also takes much longer. In contrast to this, a prefabricated staircase can be walked on and fully loaded immediately after it has been moved.
BUT:  There are situations where a cast-in-place staircase is the better solution, not infrequently even the only one. For example, if no standard prefabricated staircase can be used due to an individual design.
Or in the context of a renovation precast stairs are simply out of the question in already closed rooms.

Summary
- IF If concrete stairs are necessary in the construction of a house, precast concrete stairs should be included in the specifications if possible.
Guide values, how much cast-in-place concrete stairs cost, if they are built by specialized companies, you will find on this page.
Interesting facts about stairs / concrete stairs

Here below are those service items that are normally sufficient for the tendering of construction services for the manufacture of concrete stairs. In YOUR individual building project, however, other or additional service items may be required.
Regardless of the detailed execution in YOUR individual building project, there are in any case some important points and criteria to be considered, which are not new territory for the professional planner. On the contrary, they know exactly what is important. As an additional navigation aid, here are the links to the most important information for YOU, so that you are also in the know.
Rules, standards and guidelines
AUSTRIA. GERMANY. SWITZERLAND. How stairs or. stairs must be executed, what is allowed and what is not, is determined by the various state building codes.

In the first place therefore the regulations and building laws valid in the federal states or cantons apply. If anything about stairs is not regulated in the building regulations of the individual countries, the respective valid standards apply, namely:
EN. DIN 18065 applies to Germany.
The March 2015 edition is currently the most recent and therefore the most up-to-date edition of this DIN standard.

AT. For Austria the oNORM B 5371 is valid.
This standard was essentially adapted to DIN 18065. With regard to safety in use, there are supplementary minimum requirements that apply in the OIB-Guideline 4, March 2015 edition of the osterreichische Institute for Bautechnik were determined.

By the way, the regulations and standards are adapted to the current conditions after a few decades. Since, for example, the size of people changes over time, the assumed step lengths must also be corrected from time to time over the years. Basis for this change are the realizations of the  statistic offices, which raise pretty much everything, which is to be raised.
The optimal pitch ratio of steps
The safety and comfort of climbing stairs depends mainly on the pitch ratio of the steps, and this can vary depending on the purpose and location of the staircase. However, the ratio of tread width to tread height must not fall below or exceed certain limits and should also be the same for all treads of a staircase in order to prevent tripping.

How high and wide a step should be depends on the length of a stride – for adults this is usually between 59 and 65 centimeters. This results in the average value assumed in the standards for the Step length of 63 cm.
When climbing, this step length shortens as the slope increases and, for a vertical direction – i.e., a ladder – is exactly half at 31.5 cm. Depending on the proportion of the horizontal and vertical path of the stairs Step size formula: Step width  double step height  =  63 (b + 2 x h = 63).
Example: 29 + 2 x 17 = 63
tread width b = 29 cm, tread height h = 17 cm
The optimal slope ratio is therefore 17/29 cm, which corresponds to a slope angle of about 30°.
The further the riser ratio moves away from the optimal ratio of 17/29, the more unsafe a staircase becomes. From numerous tests have therefore two more rules or. formulas result, which ideally also result in a slope ratio of 17/29:
-
The Convenience rule: b – h = 12 cm (step width b – step height h = 12)
Cross-check: 29 – 17 = 12
BTW: When it comes to the planning of stairs, there are a lot of other calculation possibilities to get stairs that are also easy to walk on. But it all depends on the purpose of the particular staircase. In kindergartens, for example, a shorter step length may naturally be assumed for stairs that are primarily walked on by children.
Representation of stairs / stairs in the plan
After the calculation, the planned staircase can be shown in the floor plan and in the building section (elevation).

Due to the accuracy of the representation, the floor height must always be taken as a basis and divided by the number of steps (using the beam rate).
- The running length is divided by the number of treads (= heights minus 1).
- In the floor plan and elevation, the steps are numbered consecutively starting from the bottom.
As with all floor plans, the top view is also shown for the stairs, cut 1.00 meters above the floor top edge FOK

In order to make clear the cut with the stairs, this is drawn however with stairs obliquely to the stair run. Thus, behind the section line, the stair run below becomes visible. .
In the walking or. running line, an arrow is drawn in, whereby the Arrow always up (to the next floor) shows.
In addition, all dimensions prescribed by the building authorities, such as flight width, railing height and the like, must be entered in the approval plans that are submitted to the building authorities for building approval.
Detail prices for concrete stairs

The prices listed here are average guide prices, which is necessary for the execution of the staircase complete construction work apply and form the basis for the Quotation costing by a construction company represent. Therefore, all material and labor costs are included in the unit prices. In the case of prefabricated concrete stairs, for example, the transport to the site, the crane for moving the stairs and the installation itself are also included.
For your attention: The prices quoted for rebar – that is, structural steel and structural steel mesh – are often subject to wide fluctuations  which are due to international steel prices.
However, the respective proportion of reinforcement is very small, especially in this performance group. In a whole shell construction, the cost share for the reinforcement is only about 5 to a maximum of 10% of the total cost. And of it again the cost portion for a concrete staircase is almost negligible.
Possible Fluctuations in the price of structural steel will therefore be based on the average prices listed or. on the construction costs for the concrete stairs not appreciable  impact.
Precast concrete staircase spiral
The given guideline price is valid for 1 piece of coiled prefabricated staircase, regardless of the actual coiling. Whether the staircase is designed as a 1/4-spiral or as a 1/2-spiral staircase, therefore, has no significant influence on the unit price.
Nevertheless, always keep in mind: The actual You will only ever find out the price by means of a qualified construction tender.
