The title of this text may seem strange. But our current problem is, among other things, to assume that fantasy and fascism are categorically mutually exclusive or unrelated.
Imagination is something very comprehensive. Fantasies can be beautiful, beguiling, moving, and tender. But they can also be ugly, frightening, freezing and brutal. Part of fantasy is to embark on journeys of thought whose direction and destination are not clear to us. To set out on a mental journey into the unfamiliar, the unknown and what we have not thought of before is a challenge, because we are required to classify new things without judging them too quickly. It makes us open-minded if we get involved and first of all perceive a new situation without bias.
Impartiality requires that we look at something new in a value-free way. If we suddenly found ourselves in a space originating from the imagination, which has no corners, numerous questions arise:
1. On which surface is it located?
2. How is it prevented from moving, from simply rolling away?
3. What happens when I move away from where I am?
4. What can I do at all in this space where I cannot put any furniture??
There are no limits to the imagination when it comes to questions. A round room releases many possibilities of thinking, like other moments of newness that we did not want or could not have dealt with before. Basically, all research is based on the use of the imagination. Einstein would never have come to his brilliant conclusions if he had not allowed himself to think things that others did not think or did not think in this form.
Grasping the "inconceivable"
But how does one bring fantasy and fascism into a meaningful or. purposeful context? First, by defining fascism. It is a difficult matter, because there are numerous definitions, some of which differ greatly from one another. Let’s use Roger Griffin’s definition found in Wikipedia here:
"Since the definition [of fascism] aims at the ideological core rather than at the concrete historical manifestations (cult of the leader, paramilitarism, politics of the spectacle, etc.), it is not possible to define fascism in terms of its ideological core.), in other words, since it treats fascism just like other generic political ideologies (liberalism, socialism, conservatism), it becomes reasonable to consider a political phenomenon as fascist even if it exists only in an embryonic state in the mind of an ideologue and without expression in a political party, let alone a mass movement. Moreover, it may be useful to recognize a form of political energy as fascist even if it renounces the intention to operate as a partisan and/or paramilitary force and instead follows an approach that seems to have more to do with political quietism than revolutionary fanaticism."
According to Wikipedia, French psychoanalyst Janine Chasseguet-Smirgel and German social scientist Samuel Salzborn argue that National Socialism cannot simply be considered a category of fascism. They argue that National Socialism cannot be defined as "quite banal dictatorship" and thus can be put on a par with the fascism of, say, Pinochet in Chile. The "inconceivable" of the extermination of the Jews by the National Socialism is to be settled on another level.
This "intangible" is certainly part of what makes it so difficult for us to deal with National Socialism. Ultimately, the acts of National Socialism are something that transcends a person’s imagination. One may know the number of people killed, tortured and abused who fell victim to the Nazis. However, we are usually unable to follow these concretely. The death of millions of people naturally triggers a horror in us, but it is abstract, comparable to the number of deaths from starvation that occur daily, weekly, monthly and annually.
The above mentioned "inconceivable" is therefore an important point. The acts of the Nazis, unprecedented in history, seem inconceivable, unthinkable, unimaginable, even though we know they happened. They are concrete, documented and countable. But nobody wants to count them, if only for self-protection, because the deeper one gets into this topic, the more disturbing and horrible it becomes. On the other hand, it is the task of memory to allow precisely these disturbing and horrible feelings, in order not to forget the horror of National Socialism and not to allow it to repeat itself.
Fascism fantasies
Let’s talk about National Socialism here and ignore for this moment the differentiation between fascism and National Socialism. In this text it should be primarily about the repeatedly conducted discussions about whether on demonstrations against the Corona measures policy Nazis run along or even hijack them for their purposes and ideas. This accusation is omnipresent and is often used by politicians and the media to put participation in protest marches (or "walks") in a – in the truest sense of the word – "right-wing" light.
Nazis, that is. With them we associate SA and SS, Hitler, Goebbels, concentration camps and a more extreme form of the already extreme dictatorship. Quite rightly, of course. Nevertheless, this title is used very generously. A Nazi, as one can or must imagine him, is someone who longs for the time of National Socialism, who either plays down the crimes of the Nazis or denies them completely (which is also a reason to use the term "Corona denier", the association with, for example, the Holocaust denier is obvious and is also mostly used in the brain – which, by the way, does not require much imagination).
The quite exciting question now is: How many Nazis in the sense just described may be running along at the demonstrations against the Corona measures? Probably few, very few, if such figures go to such demonstrations at all. And even if there are some of these Nazis, the question follows whether they rush from participant to participant to convince them that the Holocaust is a lie or everything was better under Hitler anyway. And even if one takes this possibility into account (which, by the way, requires a considerable amount of imagination), the probability that even one participant has become a Nazi himself after this "conversation" is small, not to say vanishingly small or even impossible.
Thus it can be stated that real Nazis do not play a role on the demonstrations, which are classified politically and medially as so dangerous, and if they do it by their presence alone, then no consequences will factually result from it, which would justify the criticism of the demonstrations even rudimentarily.
Thus, the "Nazi club" is a blunt sword, which, moreover, conjures up a social danger that does not exist at all in this form on the protest marches. So let’s turn to the next complex: Sophie Scholl and the bearers of Jewish stars, paired with the note: "unvaccinated".
Sophie Scholl and Corona
When the media can’t find Nazis at demonstrations, they focus on people who are otherwise unpleasantly conspicuous. For example, on young people comparing themselves to Sophie Scholl or participants wearing a Jewish star on their lapels, combined with the remark: "Unvaccinated".
These are unquestionable gestures that neither do justice to the role of resistance against National Socialism nor to the terrible fate that Jews had to suffer. But again the question arises, what should be aimed with this medial and political focussing. As in the case of the assumed infiltration and influence by Nazis, which is stylized into a general regularity of the characteristics of Corona demos, it is by no means the case with these examples that one could thereby describe the character core of assemblies.
You could compare it with soccer games. There are regular riots by hooligans or other violent groups who mingle with the spectators as fans (or even are fans, but who give very idiosyncratic and undesirable expression to their "enthusiasm"). But if there are riots, you never hear the demand that all soccer fans must leave the stadium or are collectively called hooligans. On the contrary, the peaceful fans are praised because they do not join forces with the violent ones, but turn away from them.
So where is the difference between peaceful soccer fans and peaceful participants of a demonstration? The answer is simple: soccer fans are passionate about a cause that is socially accepted and widely popular. Whoever likes something like the "summer fairy tale" (based on corruption) (i.e. the World Cup in his own country) cannot be a bad person per se. And one forgives then gladly that he goes to soccer matches, where also a few scoundrels romp around. He really can’t help it, he just loves sports, what should he do?? About staying home?
No, you can’t expect that from a soccer fan. Possibly see his heroes in shorts only on TV? Shame, torture, impudence, to do such a thing to a soccer fan, even to think about it. But in the case of the demos against the Corona measures, things look different. The ladies and gentlemen who go there should turn around on the spot and run home as soon as they discover suspicious figures. Asked again about the difference between them and sports fans, the answer can only be: as recognized as soccer is, as hated are demonstrations against the Corona measures, for fundamental rights and for freedom. That says a lot about the country’s priorities.
Corona and fascism? Comparisons allowed!
But back to the fantasy. Comparing something (I said this in other places) is first of all a good idea, as long as you do not equate it. In another post I made the comparison between apples and pears. Although the saying goes that you shouldn’t compare apples and oranges, that’s actually not true.
So if I take an apple and a pear, I find that both are fruits. And both grow in trees. But pears and apples differ in shape and taste. And while the pear contains about 73 kilocalories and the apple about. 68 kilocalories, pears are richer in calcium, potassium and phosphorus. The apple, on the other hand, is usually sweeter than the pear.
We see: A comparison makes sense if one wants to work out the characteristics of these two fruits. One comes to similarities, one comes to differences, but this is possible only through comparison. But no one who believes that all cups are safely in his cupboard would think of claiming that apples and pears are the same. And if he does it anyway, he should take another closer look at the contents of his cupboard.
Against this background, one can only tear one’s hair out when someone claims that one should not compare the Nazi era with the Corona era. Of course you may, you even have to! How else to find differences and similarities? Who claims something else, has not learned anything from the pears and the apples!
A comparison – not an equation! – presupposes, however, that one has a certain basic knowledge. If our counterpart has never heard that there are apples and pears, he will fail miserably in comparing them (not to mention that he would have to explain exactly how he was able to avoid these two fruits for so long). So, the less he knows about the fruits, the more meaningless is a comparison.
When comparing today and the time of National Socialism, a similar problem could be present. It often seems as if the Nazi rule is exclusively associated with the gassing of Jews (and other undesirables). As soon as someone comes around the corner and warns that we are heading towards a totalitarian form of society reminiscent of the Nazi era, he gets hit with a club.
How can it be!
Outrageous!
A trivialization is that!
A mockery of the victims!
But this person, who had better retire now because he has committed a mortal sin, has something else: imagination, coupled with a certain basic knowledge. He has studied National Socialism, has become acquainted with the different facets of this rule, through readings, documentaries, perhaps through conversations and interviews.
If he now uses his imagination, he can imagine scenarios, can play in his mind two films before his eyes, one that shows moments and periods of Nazi rule, and one that plays for him what we experience today. The more detailed these "films" are, the better the observer can form a (at least partially) complete picture of both scenarios. He may then realize that the exclusion of minorities is an essential part of the time today and was that of National Socialism. He can see that no human being has perished today, at least not by the gruesome kind of murders perpetrated by the Nazis millions of times over.
If he continues to use his imagination, he can imagine what could happen in the near future. If he delves deeper into the specific field of exclusion, he can discover mechanisms that are similar or different from each other. Again, he will need his imagination to assign commonalities and differences. In doing so, he will – because no one can look into the future without actively influencing it himself – err and hit the mark. But all this is part of a learning process, which is important to understand correlations and to draw conclusions from them.
Lack of imagination and ignorance as enemies of comprehension
Let us assume that a person has learned in his life that a forest consists of conifers. And only from conifers. If he closes his eyes and imagines a forest, he sees: Coniferous trees. No deciduous trees. He also sees no shrubs, flowers, no animals, mushrooms, has no idea what a mixed forest could be, what a boreal coniferous forest is, is just as difficult for him to understand as the characteristics of alluvial forests or the tropical rain forest. In a sense, he does not see the forest for the conifers. It is obvious that he thus also cannot compare different types of forest with each other.
The general social view of the Nazi period is reminiscent of this person who can only see conifers. The fatal thing about this is the fact that politicians and the media are only too happy to cling to this incomplete view of National Socialism in order to demonize critical thoughts of today’s state of affairs and brand them as fascistoid themselves. Thus, the one who warns against totalitarian tendencies is declared an enemy, the one who makes false comparisons and makes himself suspicious of what he criticizes.
Such a simple and incomplete view does not need much imagination, because it reduces to the extremes and thus makes a differentiated consideration almost impossible. And this is intentional and planned.
If we reject every comparison and every thought of the Nazi rule as false, we cannot learn where possible dangers are to be found. In a sense, we look only at the page of the history book that depicts the concentration camps and overlook the many facets that the fascist system brought with it.
To illustrate the idea, I close with a quote from Joseph Goebbels. Not to accuse whoever here of acting or being like Goebbels. Not even to postulate that our government is taking Hitler’s Reichspropaganda leader as a model. Not even to claim that public broadcasting has long since been completely taken over by politics.
"We make no bones about it: radio is ours, no one else’s. And we will put broadcasting in the service of our idea, and no other idea shall have its say here."
I quote Goebbels for a different reason: to stimulate the imagination and provoke the question of what would come out of comparing the content of the quote with the situation in the media landscape today. So what differences and what similarities there might be.

It’s quite a joy to see Canadian truckers (truck drivers) occupying Ottawa en masse after a long drive of a convoy. Now the Canadian (and other) media are sweating to somehow produce footage of "a handful" of the exiles muttering about protesters while Trudeau is hiding in the woods, a bunker, or somewhere else. Maybe Canadians (finally) realize what a puppet of neoliberalism and the "financial-digital complex" are this Trudeau is and make sure (finally) that this puppet disappears again in the poop box.
With us is now every Monday terror, murder and manslaughter, so that for pietatsgrunden the walks have to be omitted?

The SPD is currently debating one issue in particular: welfare reform. This could hurt the party, warns former party leader Gabriel.

The issue work of the SPD is not only wrong, but also dangerous:
– the SPD creates work and should actually abolish it
– similar to the CDU, the SPD also talks about solid finances etc.
In reality, however, we have a completely wrong money and banking system.
The SPD raises for example the minimum wage and it does not understand it in this respect also anyway that money is not a medium of exchange, but something similar to a promissory bill.
In any case, the current practice is that the per capita debt of citizens is increasing faster and faster.
This has something to do with the fact that the public budgets are constantly "in debt" in order to "borrow" money from the banks again and again, who lend their credits out of nothing.
Then there is a kind of "free-market competition", however, the many IOU money (far too often put into circulation with debts of the public budgets) moves faster and faster into the possession of a few ultra rich people.
The wealth of the ultra-rich does not pass us by without a trace either. Rather, over time, we pay an ever-increasing share of interest at the counter, which accrues to a few ultra-rich people.
But the money with which we pay at the counter, the state puts constantly with new indebtedness comfortably after.
Super-rich and corporations are at the same time practically not taxed at all, because states that "shy away from the deer" are not taxed at all Money too much after, insofar as would lose.
In any case, with the current misguided policy, the (promissory bill) money supply is increasing faster and faster and there are also more and more interest charges, so that in this respect we are also working more and more for foreign profits.
As a result, less and less is consumed. This is fatal in that consumption is somewhere the economic engine.
The ECB ensures insofar since the end of 2011 that we do not run out of the many debts.
The zero interest rate allows banks to lend even more credit out of thin air, but stupidly mostly to the ultra-rich of all people.
We get therefore also no more savings interest and the dwelling becomes also ever more unaffordable.
But Bill Gates praises capitalism.

Suggestion: ‘Walking the dogs
Amusing how much nevertheless, in a contribution which pretends to treat factually the national socialism, emotionality steps into the foreground and thus only an example of the omnipresent (indoctrinated) original guilt supplies, together with preventive back-ruddering and Relativierung… Safe is safe.
So it turns out that the old trick still works: Start an absurd argument with a German as soon as he wants to defend himself, call him a Nazi and he will turn on his back and submit in best dog manner.
Therefore, the approach should be: And even if legions in SS-uniforms march against the Corona dictatorship, for basic rights, against compulsory vaccinations, this changes nothing at all about the loud reason for the demonstration.
