Radio thermometers and radio weather stations
In this case, a complete re-commissioning of all devices (basic& transmitter) are carried out. Please proceed as follows.
1. Place the devices best next to each other (ca. ½ meter distance) in front of you on a table and remove the batteries from both devices for some time.
2. Please ensure during this that in all devices proper 1.5 V. batteries are used (no rechargeable batteries or weak batteries) and replace them if necessary.
3. Take from the instruction manual (can also be downloaded in the service area) the order in which the batteries have to be inserted into the devices (first base station then transmitter or first transmitter and then base station).
4. Then insert the batteries into the first unit and a few seconds later into the next unit. Please note during and also directly after the start-up not to press any key, because with many weather stations the search process is interrupted by this.
5. We recommend to let the devices run now still some time next to each other and to observe whether the proper operation is permanently given. Afterwards, the devices can be placed again as usual
If the transmitter has its own display and the display is not correct even though the batteries are installed correctly, it must be assumed that there is a defect.
In this case, it is necessary to determine if there is either a malfunction of the device or a local interference with the radio signal. Both may well occur only in the course of time. In order to avoid radio interference on the actual or. we recommend to put the devices next to each other into operation and also to observe them next to each other. If necessary it would be useful to take the devices to another location (work, relatives or acquaintances) to see if the device works properly there.
If the devices work correctly next to each other and/or at a foreign location and
only at the actual resp. If the desired location fails, there is a local radio interference.
In this case, the location of the base station and/or transmitter should be changed.
If the devices lose the connection also next to each other or at other locations, a malfunction must be assumed.
In this case, a complete re-commissioning should be performed. If afterwards still "OF.l" is displayed, it must be assumed that there is a defect. This error message is displayed if the corresponding sensor cannot determine a plausible measured value (out of measuring range / malfunction of the sensor / defect).
It should be noted that the clothing recommendation is essentially based on the outdoor temperature received by the base station on channel 1. So for a correct display of the clothing recommendation it is necessary to place the transmitter, which determines the outdoor temperature, on channel 1. If no temperature is received on channel 1 or also an indoor temperature, then a wrong clothing recommendation is given.
Yes, the rebuilding of the air pressure history is completely normal and standard for almost all of our radio weather stations with air pressure history. This function cannot be deactivated.
These weather stations have a symbol forecast, which is also to be understood symbolically.
A rain cloud for example does not actually mean rain.
This symbol is displayed when the air pressure is falling or. over a certain
period has fallen and thus in the next 12-24 hours a
weather deterioration is to be expected.
General questions about analog instruments
In the case of a barometer, the current reference value must be adjusted after a change of location or after commissioning so that the device is correctly set to the current altitude and weather conditions. You can find out the current reference value on the Internet, from public authorities or your weather service.
Analog hygrometers should be "regenerated" regularly to ensure the most accurate measurement possible. For this purpose, the hygrometer should be regularly wrapped in a damp cloth (z.B. every 6 months for 15 min.).
As a rule, under these conditions a humidity of approx. 95-99% rH can be achieved. If this is not the case, after regeneration the hygrometer should be placed next to a reference hygrometer, allowed to acclimatize, compared with each other and then readjusted accordingly (a damp cloth is not necessarily suitable as a reference).
Electronic hygrometers are not affected in this respect and usually do not need to be readjusted. Here is a detailed instruction for the regeneration of the hair synthetic hygrometer.
Questions about measurement accuracy
To check the accuracy of the devices, please proceed as follows:
Please place both instruments and, if possible, a third comparison instrument next to each other in the same conditions and at the same height and give the instruments sufficient time,
to acclimatize. Please take into account the respective tolerance of the measuring devices. With TFA products they find out the tolerance indication usually from the instruction manual and/or on the packing.
For example, when comparing two devices with +-1°C tolerance each, a difference of up to 2°C could be possible (in extreme cases). It is therefore advisable to include a third device if possible.
If the tolerance of your TFA device is exceeded, please make use of the warranty if possible. Analog devices can usually be easily readjusted. In the case of electronic measuring instruments, calibration is usually not possible (unless otherwise stated in the instructions for use).
Questions about timer
Our analog timers work with the help of a metallic winding mechanism. The movement must be fully wound once before each time setting:
- Turn first the timer with the arrow point up to the maximum minute indication.
- Then turn the timer with the arrowhead from the maximum minute display to the desired time setting (z.B. from 60 minutes to 6 minutes for cooking eggs).
- Now the analog timer is wound up and rings for about 3 seconds after the desired time has elapsed (arrowhead on 0).
General questions about TFA
As a manufacturer, we supply exclusively to the specialized trade. As a final consumer you can refer locally our products with numerous opticians, building and electrical specialized markets, which find you over our dealer search. Or you can order directly from one of our online retailers for end customers.
