Especially important for writing an analysis or a comparison the first set is. Here is the first impression of the essay and the analysis as a whole.
Most of the time you can get a lot of points here quickly and easily. Therefore, it is important that this very first sentence contains everything important.
Note
An analysis, including the first sentence, is always written in the present tense.
Belong in the first sentence:
Note
- the name of the author
- is the name of the text
- the year of origin or publication of the text (it is important here to note in the sentence exactly what it is about!)
- the genre of the text
- a rough overview over the topic
Example
The drama (genre ✓) "Kabale und Liebe" (name of text ✓), published in 1784 (year of publication ✓) and written by Friedrich Schiller (name of author ✓), is about an illicit love between a soldier and a servant girl and intrigues against this love.
The Name of the author can almost always be found next to the title of the work or on the novel itself, just like the Title.
The Year of publication is also mostly indicated directly there. If this is not the case, you can usually find it in the book on the 3. page find information about the year of publication. Here it is important not to use the year of publication or the latest edition. Usually it makes the most sense to indicate the year of publication. But also the date of the first publication, the year of publication, can be suitable. In the case of dramas, it is a good idea to mention the date of the first performance.
Note
It is important to indicate what the year refers to! (first performance, year of publication, year of creation, etc).)
Around the Genre of the text to find, one must look often only into the task. Here is usually already indicated whether it is a drama, a novel, a poem, a commentary, etc. acts. If you don’t find any information there, you have to figure out for yourself which type of body you are dealing with. More about this in chapter 3.
To get the Rough overview of the topic to get, one must read the text first of course. It is best to read it several times and with the use of a highlighter. After that you should think about what makes the text essential, so to speak, a subheadingconsider. This is not a statement of contents.
Note
ÜFor a rough outline of the topic, think of a Subheading.
If all these details appear correctly in your first sentence, these points are already safe!
Next, let’s look at how you write a summary of a text:
