Frequently asked questions about television
What does 4K mean?
The term 4K refers to the resolution of the TV and is to be considered as the successor of Full-HD. The 4K resolution is 3840 × 2160 pixels, which is twice as much as the Full HD resolution. 4K is also known as UHD (Ultra-HD).
What does the Hertz rating say about picture quality?
The refresh rate is important for the picture quality. This frequency is given in Hertz (abbreviation Hz) and indicates how often a process is repeated per second. For example, a 50 hertz TV shows the images fifty times per second and a 100 hertz set accordingly a hundred times. 50 Hertz should have the TV, almost all current models offer at least 60 Hertz. For gamers and sports fans, a TV with 120 hertz, like the test winner from LG, is recommended.
What is HDR?
HDR means "High Dynamic Range and designates a function for a high contrast range. The TV thus shows more brilliant colors and greater differences between very bright and very dark image areas. This gives the picture even more depth and makes it look more natural. Manufacturers often use different designations for HDR. HDR10 and Dolby Vision have become established.
What is the right distance from the TV?
A screen diagonal of 55 inches corresponds to slightly more than 139 centimeters. In the past, the simple rule for the distance between seats was to measure twice the diagonal of the screen. With the high 4K resolution, however, the rule is outdated. With 4K Ultra HD, you can also take a seat one meter in front of the screen. For a comfortable distance, however, at least 1.50 meters is recommended. For even larger models with a 65-inch screen diagonal, Stiftung Warentest advises a distance of at least three meters for 4K content. If you have less space in the living room, a TV with a smaller diagonal is recommended.
How should televisions be cleaned?
Before cleaning, the TV should already be switched off for at least 60 minutes. You can ensure even more safety by disconnecting the set from the mains. Dry cleaning poses no risk. To do this, take an anti-static cloth and carefully clean the surface of the TV. Crevices and corners can be cleaned with a dust brush. Ventilation openings are best cleaned with a vacuum cleaner.
The TV may also be cleaned with a damp cloth. For this purpose, it is best to use two microfiber cloths. Clear water without detergent is already sufficient for cleaning. Special Screen cleaner can also be used. You can then wipe the TV damp with the first cloth and dry the TV with the second cloth.
